What’s strange about this job
Is that it’s a dirty, loud job
And these guys will not leave this job
For love nor money.
I guess it takes a special type.
These guys are here,
Even if they had the opportunity to bid out,
They’d stay right here.
Basically what we work on
Is people movers —
Mass transit,
Subway systems.
We’re the backbone of that.
What makes doors close on the New York City subways,
What makes that train not hit the next train,
Fail-safe devices —
That’s what we do.
We build switch machines
That switch the tracks.
